What Is Recess Olympics?

Recess Olympics is a fundraiser where kids, students and adults compete in classic playground games to raise money for people and families living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It's run by Hopping 4 A Cure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2010, and hosted by student- and community-led chapters across the United States.

Where it all started

How did Recess Olympics start?

With two suits, a made-up sport and a very good reason.

October 13, 2010

Two high school juniors, David Nassau and Gary Wexler, "suited up" and declared themselves their school's first Varsity Hopscotchers. It started as a joke.

January 21, 2011

David's father has lived with MS since David was in elementary school. So David, Gary and David's mom Marla turned their made-up rules into the first hopscotch tournament for MS. It was a huge success, raising $6,000.

The years that followed

That first tournament grew into Recess Olympics, raising thousands of dollars in over 10 chapters across the United States.

November 15, 2026

Recess is back in South Florida, and we're rebuilding chapters nationwide.
